Outreach Coordinator

Reports to: Library Director
Position Title: Outreach Coordinator
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent, Some College Preferred, Clearance Required
Hours: Part-Time 15-22 hours per week

Summary: The Outreach Coordinator plans and oversees programming and outreach services within the library and community. This is a highly visible and responsible position. Above all, the person in this position should present a positive image of the library, making all people feel welcome and accepted at the library. This position cooperates with other staff members to meet the needs of the public, community, and the library.

Primary Duties:
• Coordinates and executes library services and programs
• Assists library technology planning and implementation as it impacts their assigned area
• Plans special interest displays, programs, and projects
• Assist patrons with ready-reference questions, readers’ advisory, and database searching
• Collaborates with local organizations to provide outreach services and programs to promote the library to target audiences
• Seeks out alternative sources of funds for programs, such as grants, private donors, or service organizations
• Performs other related work

General Duties:
• Communicates and applies library policies and procedures
• Assists the public in the use of the library and its services
• Assists in circulation of library materials using our ILS
• Shelves library materials and items
• Assists in keeping the library in neat order
• Registers new patrons and updates records for existing patrons
• Any other duties as required for the good of the library

Qualifications:
• Advanced computer literacy with ability to use different design and processing programs (Canva, Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
• Knowledge of and experience with popular platforms and social media for streaming and building community, such as YouTube, Twitch, Discord, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
• Knowledge of and experience with using a variety of devices and other emerging technologies for libraries
• Ability to deal with the public, staff, and volunteers in a tactful and courteous manner
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team, and a commitment to teamwork, as well as the ability to take direction when required
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, English grammar and spelling
• Problem-solving abilities
• Qualities such as creativity, open-mindedness, and positive energy are an asset
• Time Management: set priorities in order to meet assignment deadlines
• Ability to multi-task

Physical Requirements:
• Moving library furniture to accommodate seating
• Arranging tables and chairs for programs
• Bending/twisting and reaching
• Lifting and carrying: 50 pounds or less
• Handling, processing, picking up, and shelving books
• Fingering: keyboarding, writing, filing, sorting, shelving, and processing
• Pushing and pulling objects weighing 60-80 pounds (on wheels)
• Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, and stooping
• Talking and hearing; use of telephone and personal computer
• Mobility: travel to meeting outside the library
